The tension between Ian Garry and veteran Colby Covington is still palpable.  The rising welterweight contender has targeted Colby Covington for his next fight. Garry first faces Geoff Neal at UFC 298. But he expects a showdown with “Chaos” next should he win.

Garry wants Colby Covington next after beating Neal. Given his hype and Covington’s profile, he expects the UFC to book it. Garry then plans to target the top three and earn a title shot in 2025. He has plans laid out before him to win the welterweight gold. This is what he said:

I want to beat Geoff Neal in spectacular fashion this weekend, then I’m going to fight Colby Covington, and I’m going to retire him, and I’m going to rid the clown from the UFC. Then I’ll take someone [ranked] three, two or one in the world, I’ll beat them, and I’ll earn my title shot next year.

Garry won’t abandon his brash persona despite the attacks. He stated that lines exist between clever banter and hate. In his view, Covington and Strickland crossed into genuinely vile territory. The Irish star labeled it a “dark age” for MMA as the unnecessary viciousness breeds only negativity.

Ian Garry remains focused on Neal first and cementing his contender status. But settling scores with Covington tops his priority list. Fight fans will see if Garry’s plan works out in his favor or if Geoff Neal’s plan triumphs.

How did the beef between Ian Garry and Colby Covington start?

The beef between Colby Covington and Ian Garry goes back to last year. This came about after Garry’s wife’s book How to Be a WAG came to light. This stirred up drama between the two welterweights. Covington hurled insults Garry’s way and maligned Garry’s wife and relationship.

Covington slammed Garry as a legitimate cuck on television. He also called Garry’s wife vile. He taunted her for supposedly writing a book on being a “WAG.” That stands for wives and girlfriends of athletes. Garry’s wife penned a satirical manual on becoming a WAG. Namely, women who target rich sportsmen for easy lives. She insists it was a parody. It’s not the legit guide Covington suggested.

Colby Covington last fought Leon Edwards for the title and lost via unanimous decision. Garry was supposed to fight Vicente Luque on the same card. However, health issues forced him out of the bout. A grudge match with Covington would be big business next. Their beef has simmered since Covington first maligned Garry’s family.
