The shirt depicted Neal’s booking photo from a 2021 Thanksgiving arrest in Texas. It included Garry’s nickname, “The Future” printed underneath. The Irishman also sold the T-shirts via his Instagram store. It was also revealed that Layla Anna-Lee was allegedly the mastermind behind this idea. Neal’s mugshot stems from misdemeanor charges of DUI and unlawful weapon possession on November 25, 2021. The American was jailed before posting a $2,000 bond.

The mugshot T-shirt prompted a backlash against Garry for perceived disrespect. Garry used the incident to generate heat online and leaned into the feud once they were booked to fight. It escalated the rivalry and brought more eyes to their eventual showdown at UFC 298.
