Undefeated UFC welterweight Ian Garry was recently in the news for surprising reasons. Garry and his wife, Layla Anna-Lee faced social media hate from fans and even from UFC fighters. UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland was among those who attacked the couple for their lifestyle. There were many other fighters but it was Strickland who made the headlines with his opinions about the relationship of Garry and his wife.
Ian Garry recently had to pull out from his fight with Vicente Luque at UFC 296. After his training camp in Brazil, Garry’s health deteriorated on arrival in Las Vegas. Dana White later confirmed that Garry had to pull out due to Pneumonia. Garry recently appeared on Ariel Helwani‘s MMA Hour where he had words to say about Sean Strickland. This is what he tweeted.
In an ideal world, towards the end of the year, I don’t think Sean Strickland is going to be the world champion anymore. And I believe there’s absolutely an opportunity for me to step up to middleweight and give him a hiding. Maybe, maybe I’ll beat him so bad that he’ll forget all that trauma from his childhood, and he can thank me.

Strickland, scheduled to headline UFC 297, against Dricus Du Plessis, recently had an emotional moment. It happened during his appearance on comedian Theo Von’s podcast, This Past Weekend. Part of the reason for his vulnerable moment was Dricus Du Plessis using Strickland’s childhood trauma against him at the UFC seasonal press conference. Strickland and Du Plessis would later have a physical altercation at UFC 296.
Ian Garry will face Geoff Neal at UFC 298 in Anaheim, California. The two were scheduled to fight at UFC 292, but Neal pulled out and Neil Magny replaced him. Garry won the fight via unanimous decision.
Ian Garry predicts Leon Edwards to remain champion by the end of 2024
Ian Garry trained with Leon Edwards at Team Renegade in Birmingham but had to leave the gym recently. Garry stated that it was the insecurity of Edwards and his team that caused his expulsion. However, Edwards and his coach came forward and clarified that it was due to Garry not aligning with the gym culture.
Nevertheless, Garry does not have any ill will toward Edwards. However, Garry did not believe that he could get a title shot in 2024. He found Belal Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov to be more deserving of the title shot.
Garry stated that Edwards would defend the title twice in 2024; possibly against Muhammad and Rakhmonov. As for himself, he targeted fights with Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Sean Strickland in addition to Geoff Neal.
