UFC veteran Chael Sonnen had recently reported Ian “Machado” Garry exiting from the UFC 296 fight card. The 13-0 welterweight was to square off with Vicente Luque in Las Vegas, Nevada. But CEO Dana White reaffirmed the shocking news as well. That being the fighter withdrawing from the final PPV of the year.
Sonnen, the former light heavyweight contender, often faces backlash for incurring title fight losses against three prominent opponents. These include the likes of Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, and Paul Filho. But Sonnen undoubtedly remains the titleholder of the biggest trash talker in the promotion. At the receiving end now, is Garry. Speaking to MMA Junkie at the 15th annual World MMA Awards. check out what he had to say:
He’s clearly had great coaches. Just by example: He’s a handsome guy, he’s well-spoken, he gets the game, his skills are top-shelf. His PR sucks. Not that it's bad. It sucks. It's terrible...I only share that because there’s only one thing you can’t do, which is nothing – which is what he did do.Chael Sonnen via MMA Junkie
Fans have labeled him the “master of trash talk” time and again. Sonnen is famed for swiping in presentimental thoughts on many matters in the MMA spectrum.
Even with his team chiming in his appearance, Garry had remained absent. This was due to a speculative case of pneumonia. Sonnen further dissed Garry on his choice not to appear at the pre-fight presser for UFC 296 Media Day. He had hinted that the fighter could have proxied in with a book or cigar, and “walked out and the book just sits in his spot.“
Chael Sonnen advised Ian Garry after UFC 292 victory
Ian Garry is one the top fighters at the zenith of the welterweight scenario. He further solidified his position with a victory over Neil Magny. However, the fighter had ridiculed the opponent with lude gestures within the octagon itself.
Conversely, he had also chosen to twist Magny’s aspirations of disciplining him with a stance of pedophilia. In light of the latter fighting custody battles for his children, this had attracted much disgust from the fan community.
Subsequently, Chael Sonnen has some advice for the rising fighter. In the aftermath of UFC 292, Sonnen had advised Garry to make his stance as an advanced grappler the nexus of his focus.
Garry is going to have to fight a great grappler or he’s just not gonna get over with you guys to the extent.Chael Sonnen via MMA News
Recently, the veteran had also deliberated on Garry’s probable stance for UFC 296. This was in light of recent controversies of the fighter’s etiquette of self-promotional tendencies and his marriage. Sonnen has also bashed the fighter for missing out on the UFC 296 Media Day and pulling out of his slated matchup altogether.
