“Mf was so confident had the video edit ready to go” – ‘Main character’ Ilia Topuria dropping montage immediately after beating Alexander Volkanovski has fans in awe

The UFC’s second pay-per-view of 2024 took place at the Honda Center, in Anaheim. And some promises saw fulfillment. Some few more than others. Longtime reigning titleholder Alexander Volkanovski gave it his all. However, he lost out to now 15-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC undefeated featherweight Ilia Topuria. Currently, though, it’s not the change in guard that has fans shaken, despite some initial fallout to the sensational knockout at UFC 298.
It’s a video edit that has piqued fan interest, which was in the works from earlier in all probability. During the UFC 298 “Countdown” and UFC 298 ‘Embedded,’ Vlog Series, the Spaniard’s camp hinted at a promotional movie. Now, after becoming the new champ with a spectacular knockdown, his PR team has released a new promo on social media.
The montage shows him in a zen stance and calibration, where he reminisces over his win streak with closed eyes. These include names like Daniel Vasquez, Damon Jackson, Ryan Hall, Josh Emmett, and others. Following the familiar background vibe of Bruce Buffer‘s announcements and rock strumming, the video transitions to him knocking down Volkanovski and bagging the belt from referee Jason Herzog at UFC 298. The caption read:
Cada gota de sangre valió la pena. [Every drop of blood was worth it...]Ilia Topuria’s caption read
A prime reaction on X read- “This MF was so confident that he had a video edit ready to go, he just needed footage of the finish to add in.” In his social domains officialiliatopuria.com and elmatador.es (and IG), Topuria had already marked 15-0 even before the match ever happened. Consequently, the fighter has delivered on his main character-esque hype train.
Fight fans react to Ilia Topuria’s tantalizing new promo, following UFC 298
A few days ago, UFC 298 star Alexander Volkanovski went viral for swimming with crocodiles. But now he has gone up with a whole other beast.
Ilia Topuria has gone on to become the 5th-ever 145lbs champ. At UFC 298’s headliner (Anaheim, Calif.) after a close first round, the Spaniard let go of his boxing-heavy stance. He dealt a massive right in the 2nd round, wobbling Alexander Volkanovski to the cage. Followed by a fateful left at the 3:32 mark, the Aussie was thus left shut down, reeling from the strike.
Accordingly, he had doubled down on the era of Topuria being in play, on the conversation of a rematch. Speaking at the post-fight presser he said it is the era of the new blood, i.e. – him.
As such, his corner has also released an official promo hours after the win. Here’s how fight fans have reacted to it:
Topuria has gone viral many times now, channeling Conor McGregor. Veteran commentator, Daniel Cormier was even wowed with his Conor McGregor-esque aura. Even MMA coverage analyst, Luke Thomas noted him edging close toward the Dubliner in promo skills.
Topuria understood the assignment and delivered on it; the fans have alluded to it as such. McGregor understood the importance of selling a promo with his raw etiquette. There’s a reason UFC listings have McGregor’s bouts as the top 10 PPV buyouts, making him a PPV king.
And with this unhinged yet surprisingly good promo, Touria proves he is on the right track to greatness.
