Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria will headline UFC 298, the second PPV of 2024. They were the original headliner for UFC 297 but Volkanovski accepted a short notice fight at UFC 294. This made the UFC book a middleweight title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis to headline UFC 297.

Currently, Topuria is undefeated in the UFC and Volkanovski has vowed to be the first man to defeat Topuria. The Georgian fighter is very active on social media. It did not take him long to respond as he tweeted out his response.

Volkanovski suffered his first knockout loss in the promotion at UFC 294. He accepted the fight on 12 days’ notice and suffered a head-kick knockout loss from Islam Makhachev. Since the loss, Topuria has doubled down on his trash talks against Volkanovski.

As of now, Volkanovski is a slight betting favorite against Topuria. However, many predict a victory for Topuria. This is due to Volkanovski coming back too soon after a brutal knockout.

Topuria came into the title picture with a dominant performance over Josh Emmet. The victory has aged well as Emmet knocked out Bryce Mitchell out cold at UFC 296. Topuria also has a finish over Mitchell. Spanish football superstar Sergio Ramos is a close friend of Topuria. He was in attendance when Topuria fought Emmet. Fight fans can expect his presence at UFC 298.

Alexander Volkanovski’s message to Ilia Topuria

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski took to his YouTube channel to send a message to Ilia Topuria. Six weeks out from UFC 298, Volkanovski spoke in a confident and assertive tone. He vowed to demonstrate the difference in skill in their fight, which will headline UFC 298. Volkanovski stated that Topuria could not match the intensity of the Australian.

Volkanovski vowed to take the 0 from Topuria’s undefeated record. He stated that his main aim is to show that there are levels to the sport of MMA. Moreover, Volkanovski also referenced the age gap between the two. Whilst Volkanovski is in his mid-30s, Topuria is in his mid-20s. Volkanovski is one of the best tacticians in MMA and was the former pound-for-pound king.

Even though Volkanovski is coming off a loss, he is undefeated in featherweight. If Topuria manages to defeat Volkanovski for the title, he will become the first Georgian to become a UFC champion. UFC 297 saw the UFC crown its first South African champion, Dricus Du Plessis. Like Du Plessis at UFC 297, Topuria is also a slight betting underdog at UFC 298.
