Dan Hooker has a long-standing rivalry with current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Hooker accused Makhachev of using an IV ahead of UFC 284 for recovery. This has compelled Hooker to eventually compare Makhachev to a glorified criminal of the last century, O.J. Simpson.

Dan Hooker and Islam Makhachev have fought once in the UFC. Hooker lost the fight via submission, but the fighter later asserted that he was unprepared for the matchup for reasons he could not control. Since then, Hooker has stated many disrespectful things to the lightweight champion. He accused the Russian of doping by introducing IV( Intravenous therapy) into his body in his fight against Alexander Volkanovski.

Recently, Dan Hooker seems to have gotten carried away by comparing Islam Makhachev to O.J. Simpson. Hooker believed that Islam Makhachev was not caught doping because of the lack of evidence. He said, “There just wasn’t enough evidence to get over the line.” He continued, “But where there’s smoke, there’s fire. We’ve got OJ Simpson walking around here”. This was probably an exaggeration on Hooker’s part, but a poor choice of analogy.

Dan Hooker probably needs to slow down with his hatred toward Islam Makhachev. Although the OJ Simpson comment was too much, Hooker’s claims against Makhachev seem concerning for the MMA community. Islam’s manager made cryptic tweets at that time and deleted them which concerned the MMA community.

Fans feel sorry for Dan Hooker after his fight with Dustin Poirier

Dan Hooker has proven to everyone that he has the skill and intelligence to become the best in the UFC’s lightweight division. Nevertheless, as soon as he rose to the top, he faced “The Diamond,” Dustin Poirier. The trash talk made by the two fighters in the weeks leading up to the fight increased the stakes at which these guys were operating. Unfortunately for Hooker, Poirier managed to secure the win convincingly.

This video edit on Twitter shows how devastated Dan Hooker was after his loss against Dustin Poirier. Hooker was in tears and had to be strolled off to a hospital bed after the fight. Dustin remained a class act at the post-fight press conference and showed respect to Hooker but asserted his supremacy nevertheless.

Dan Hooker certainly has much to prove after losses against the top contenders in the lightweight division. The only path to a real legacy for Hooker would be to beat fighters like Makhachev, Charles Oliveira, and Poirier in the octagon.
