The UFC lightweight champion is not too keen about the BMF title fight at UFC 300. Islam Makhachev recently said that the fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Hollway is useless. The fight was likely scheduled to stack the UFC 300 card.

Islam Makhachev recently did an interview with MMA Junkie. There he talked about Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway’s fight at UFC 300.

I don’t want to make people upset, but this is a useless fight for a useless belt. Nobody gains anything from this fight.

Islam Makhachev is the UFC lightweight champion. He has criticized the UFC’s decision to have Justin Gaethje defend his BMF title against Max Holloway at UFC 300. Justin Gaethje earned the “BMF” title by knocking out Dustin Poirier in their rematch at UFC 291. Makhachev called it “a useless fight for a useless belt” and said that the fight makes no sense.

Makhachev has said that he is interested in fighting Justin Gaethje next. Gaethje previously declined a short-notice fight against Makhachev at UFC 294. The Dagestani believes he is more skilled and a better fighter than Gaethje. ‘The Human Highlight’ is a former interim lightweight champion. It will be interesting to see the two clash in the octagon.

Islam Makhachev wants to fight Dustin Poirier ASAP

Makhachev has pleaded with UFC to book a title fight between him and Poirier this June. The sole reason Makhachev would offer Poirier the title fight is because of his availability in June. The lightweight champion does not think that Poirier is deserving of a title just yet.

Makhachev expressed his desire to step into the octagon thrice this year, and Poirier simply fits into that plan. Makhachev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has offered Poirier a title fight in June. Poirier too welcomed the offer of fighting the Dagestani champion.

Makhachev was ready to defend his lightweight title in March. However, no worthy contender is available during the time frame. Recently, Poirier knocked out Benoit Saint-Denis in the second round at UFC 299. This sent his stock through the roof and made him a viable if not a deserving contender for a title fight in June.
