Demian Maia backs Charles Oliveira to beat Islam Makhachev in a hypothetical fight. Maia is a legend of the sport and has been a part of UFC since 2008. The veteran fighter had an impressive career and now he is getting the chance to critique the new generation of lightweights in UFC. Oliviera and Makhachev are currently two of the biggest lightweights in UFC and their fight is inevitable.
Maia recently did an interview with MMA Fighting’s Trocacao Franca where he spoke about Oliveira fighting Makhachev, if it ever happens.
While talking about the fight, Maia mentioned that Oliveira is the only man who can beat Makhachev inside the octagon. Maia explained that in order to beat Makhachev one needs to have an impressive guard along with an attacking approach. According to Maia, Oliveira has all those abilities. Maia playfully revealed that if he ever bets he would definitely do it on Oliviera.
He said :
“If there’s a man to beat that type of fighter, it’s Charles, because Charles has guard. You have to have [a good] guard to beat someone like that, enough guard to at least survive but also be offensive, to be dangerous there. Charles has that. Charles is a dangerous fight for that type of fighter. Not to mention he’s dangerous as hell on the feet…I would put ( money on Oliveira). I’m not a betting guy, but I would. “
Islam Makhachev reaction to Demian Maia comments
After those comments were posted by MMA Fighting on Twitter, Makhachev shared the tweet with a caption.
In the caption, the Dagestani revealed that he knows an individual who lost his house when he bet on Dan Hooker against Islam Makhachev. The fighter advised Maia to choose wisely and save his money from losing.
“I remember the guy who bet his house and lost in my fight vs Hooker. Don’t do the same mistake @demianmaia save your money ?,” wrote Islam Makhachev.
The fight between Oliveira and Islam
Makhachev is something which is extremely hard to predict for many fans. Both the fighters are extremely capable and dominant. It will be interesting to see who will come out as the winner when these two figh inside the octagon in future.
