The upcoming UFC 294 event in Abu Dhabi features a main event clash between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. Makhachev was seen training in Judo, which garnered a huge response on X (formerly Twitter). It was posted by the X handle, Sa_Gwang. As a result, a fan commented, “Charles should retire,” beneath the training video.
This fight marks a rematch from UFC 280, where both fighters fought for the vacant Lightweight Title. Oliveira was stripped of the title due to a weight miss against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. During their previous encounter, Makhachev secured victory by submitting Oliveira with an arm-triangle choke in the second round, following a well-placed lead right hook that dropped Oliveira to the canvas.
Islam Makhachev, renowned for his expertise in combat Sambo, has openly criticized Jiu-Jitsu as being inferior to both Sambo and Judo. Interestingly, during his fight against Charles Oliveira, the Dagestani fighter utilized a Judo throw to trip Oliveira, employing the same technique that the 33-year-old had been practicing in his training sessions.
Charles Oliveira has shown substantial improvement since his loss, as demonstrated by his first-round victory over Beneil Dariush. In his most recent match, Makhachev engaged in a closely contested bout against the Featherweight Champion, Alexander Volkanovski, who was moving up in weight. Despite the close nature of the fight, Makhachev managed to secure a decisive victory.
The UFC is known to stack up fight cards in the Middle East. The company followed the same trend as the event, which has Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paolo Costa, Magomed Ankalaev vs. Johnny Walker, and Ikram Aliskerov vs. Nassourdine Imavov on the undercard.
Fans react to video of Islam Makhachev training Judo

MMA enthusiasts have expressed concerns regarding Charles Oliveira’s prospects in his rematch against Islam Makhachev. This apprehension stems from the emergence of training videos featuring Makhachev practicing Judo techniques, particularly Judo throws.
The two fighters initially crossed paths at UFC 280, during which the Russian fighter convincingly outperformed the Brazilian submission specialist. MMA fans have backed Makhacev to win the rematch as evidenced by their reaction on X.
UFC 294 marks Oliveira’s second endeavor to recapture the title he forfeited due to a weight miss. Conversely, Makhachev aims to secure his consecutive title defense. A victory for either fighter holds substantial advantages for the UFC, underscoring the anticipation of an exceptional showdown between the two.
