Islam Makhachev calls out Charles Oliveira
Charles Oliveira is no longer the UFC lightweight champion because he didn’t make weight before UFC 274 last month. However, he is anticipated to fight for the championship again in his next fight. Oliveira would fight Conor McGregor for the vacant championship if he had his way.
In an interview with ESPN Brazil on Tuesday, Oliveira stated that fighting McGregor would be his first option because “fighting Conor is extremely profitable.” Oliveira submitted Justin Gaethje in the first round of a lightweight title fight on May 7, but the belt remained vacant owing to Oliveira’s weight loss.
McGregor, on the other hand, is the most famous fighter in the history of mixed martial arts, and his battles are the most lucrative. Oliveira is well aware of this reality. He is is still rehabbing from a broken leg sustained in a bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 last July.

Recently, Olivera told ESPN MMA, when asked about the Mcgregor fight, he stated, “It would put a lot of money in my pocket, and [at this moment] that’s the most important thing. And it would also be really good for my legacy, for me to have in my story. Regardless, if he’s coming from defeat or not, he’s a guy who’s made history, so I think it would be great, but it’s not just up to me. If it were up to me, this fight would already be happening.”
Islam Makhachev is 10-1 in the UFC’s lightweight division and has a 10-fight winning streak. In a last-minute catchweight match this year, he TKO’d Bobby Green. He submitted Dan Hooker, Thiago Moises, and Drew Dober last year. When asked about a fight against him, Olivera stated, “I’ve never ran from a fight and the lightweight champion is called Charles Oliveira. Is Islam a very tough guy? Yep. Did he fight big names? No. He’s on a big streak, but who did he fight?”
Hearing upon this, Makhachev reacted to it on Twitter, where responded by tweeting 2 clown emojis. Basically, a way to trash Olivera and his comments.
