The USA is currently facing protests from citizens on the overturning of the Roe vs Wade lawsuit. MMA fighters like Israel Adesanya and others are also showing their dissatisfaction over the issue.
Roe vs Wade is a name given to one of the most important lawsuits in US history. It is landmark judgement that took place in 1983 where the court made abortion a constitutional right. In other words, it protects a pregnant women’s right to have an abortion. Since then the law has been a part of a long debate in the United States whether to keep the law or do any required adjustments.
On Friday, June 24, the US supreme court overruled Roe v Wade. The court in a 6-3 majority decision has put ban on abortion after 15 weeks. Now that doesn’t mean that abortion is completely banned in USA it is simply not a fundamental rights but it surely creates problems for many people. Following the decision, 13 states have ‘trigger bans’ in place which prohibits women to have abortion in these states. Now women, who need an abortion will have to travel to other states which are far where abortion is legal. This will affect a lot as the whole process will take much more time, money and effort.
