“Stopped me only after 2 pumps,” Israel Adesanya brutally trolls Paulo Costa in response to the latter’s outrage at a referee

“Stopped me only after 2 pumps,” Israel Adesanya brutally trolls Paulo Costa in response to the latter’s outrage at a referee

Israel Adesanya- Paulo Costa

While Paulo Costa can be angry at a lot of things, Israel Adesanya knows nothing will infuriate Costa more than reminiscing his defeat at the hands of Adesanya himself. Adesanya, the current UFC middleweight champion, last fought at the main event of UFC 276 where he defeated Jared Cannonier to defend his title for the fifth time. Adesanya is now most likely to fight his kickboxing rival Alex Pereira next for the first time in an MMA cage.

Costa was undefeated and so was Adesanya when they both fought, this fight happened back in September of 2020 and this was Adesanya’s second title defence after Romero. The fight had the tagline of “Someone’s O has got to go” meaning someone has to taste defeat for the first time in their professional career. Adesanya was the one that got his hand raised at the end via second-round TKO and right after the referee intervened to stop the fight, Adesanya let go of Costa only after humping him twice showing dominance over his challenger.

Both Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa are mad at Jason Herzog, only for different reasons

Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa
Jason Herzog was the referee for Israel Adesanya vs Paulo Costa at UFC 253

At UFC 276, UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley’s fight against Pedro Munhoz was called off a no-contest because of an accidental eye poke from O’Malley that couldn’t enable Munhoz to continue with the fight. The referee was Jason Herzog who ruled out a no-contest, case in point, Herzog was the same referee for Adesanya vs Costa. Herzog was also the referee for Costa’s last fight, a unanimous decision loss against Marvin Vettori. In that fight, Costa was deducted one point because of the first eye poke of the bout.

So in reaction to Herzog’s decision-making at UFC 276, Costa went on a rant over the referee on Twitter and said in the caption of some random pictures associated with UFC 276 “Jason Herzog this guy is bad intentioned. I I repudiate this kind of fake professional. he took 1 point from me in the very first unintentional eye poke. and guess what, fate is cruel. the eye poke much more serious that pedro received he didn’t get a point. you son of a bitch”

Adesanya quoted Costa’s tweet and said “I know right…He stopped me only after 2 pumps!!” Citing the aforementioned incident in which Adesanya humped Costa twice after the stoppage in their fight.

What do you make of this trolling by Adesanya? Do you think it’s cool for fun or was it unnecessary? Do you think Costa will fight for the middleweight title again in the near future? Who would win if these fighters for go for a rematch? Where do you put Adesanya amongst the best UFC fighters on the current roster?
