Drake and Israel Adesanya
Israel Adesanya will be defending his middleweight championship belt for the sixth time this Saturday against Alex Pereira. The UFC 281 stage is set at Madison Square Garden where Izzy would try to extend his reign further.
Ahead of the fight, Adesanya did an interview with Aaron Bronsteter where the fighter was asked about his recent time in Canada. While talking about it, Izzy mentioned that he met Drake, who hosted the fighter and treated him well. “I met the King of Toronto,” said Adesanya. “Of course, my boy. He looked after us and hosted us very well. Yeah, it was a beautiful time just hanging out in the city.”
Adesanya also revealed that UFC legend St-Pierre who lives in Montreal also came to visit the champion and it was a great moment for Adesanya. He said: “Also, George flew from Montreal just to hang out with me and that was an honour for myself to spend time with George and get some wisdom from him.”
Meeting Drake and GSP simultaneously is really an amazing moment and Izzy definitely respected it. Adesanya said how grateful he is for all this and doesn’t take fame for granted.
Will Drake put money on Israel Adesanya again?
Drake and Israel Adesanya are good friends and have a lot of mutual respect. During Izzy’s last title defense against Jared Cannonier, Drake had betted a whopping 1 million on the ‘Last Stylebender’. Before the fight at UFC 276, Drake and Adesanya were on a video call where the hip-hop superstar mentioned the bet.
“Bro, I already know what time it is,” Drake said. “You know, I put a light million up.” “Light mil?” Adesanya asked surprisingly. “A light mil,” Drake said. “I had to put a light mil on my brother. Return on investment is a lock.”
Drake also showed his affection and respect for Adesanya and said, “I just want to wish you good luck. You know I love you, brother. You’re different. You’re a different guy, bro. I have a deep, deep, deep love and respect for you. Deep love and respect.”
Drake is famous for betting money on UFC fighters and it won’t be surprising if he would place money on Izzy this time too. Even though this time the fight is looking a bit close, Adesanya still has the upper hand when it comes to championship fight experience.
