“Your arrogance got you in trouble,” Israel Adesanya’s head coach reacts to Sean Strickland’s loss at UFC 276

Alex Pereira knocks out Sean Strickland at UFC 276- Eugene Bareman

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is a smart fighter in himself, imagine how much wisdom pours out of his coach, City Kickboxing’s Eugene Bareman. Adesanya is coming off a dominant decision victory for his fifth title defence against Jared Cannonier this past weekend at UFC 276. Adesanya has secured wins over the likes of Cannonier, Robert Whittaker, Marvin Vettori, Yoel Romero, Kelvin Gastelum, Derek Brunson, Anderson Silva and many more.

Besides Adesanya, Bareman also coaches Alexander Volkanovski, who came off a stunning trilogy win and third straight victory over preceding featherweight champion Max Holloway. Bareman also coaches City Kickboxing’s Brad Riddell, Kai Kara France, Carlos Ulberg, Blood Diamond and many more Kiwi mixed-martial artists. Bareman had 7 professional fights as a competitor himself before hanging his gloves to pursue coaching in 2013.

Israel Adesanya’s coach thinks Sean Strickland “fumbled the bag” against Alex Pereira

Sean Strickland- Israel Adesanya

In an interview with Australian media outlet Submission Radio, Bareman reacts to formerly #4 ranked UFC middleweight Sean Strickland’s devastating knockout loss to Alex Pereira under the same fight card as Adesanya. Pereira now has most likely secured himself a title shot against someone he MMA who he has defeated twice in kickboxing. Meanwhile, Strickland has reacted to his loss to Pereira through a couple of selfie videos on his Instagram account.

Sean Strickland fumbled the bag…did he think he wasn’t fighting one of the best strikers in the world that can take you out if you stand in front of him? Did he?” asks coach Bareman curiously Like, your arrogance can get you in trouble. Like, yeah, I recognize when people come from another sport what they are and give them their due respect that’s… yeah, he fumbled the bag. But all power to him. I hope he gets back in a position where Israel can fight him because I know it’s a fight that Israel really wants. So all the best to Sean.” [h/t MMA Junkie]

What do you make of coach Bareman’s assessment of Strickland underestimating Pereira? Do you agree with him? Do you think Strickland can recover quick and re-enter the winning column? Who do you think should Strickland fight on his return? Also, who do you think wins between Adesanya and Pereira if they fight each other next?
