Jan Blachowicz reponds to Champion Glover Texiera

Jan Blachowicz managed to come out as the tougher guy in his bout against Aleksandar Rakic at UFC Vegas 54 when he gained a TKO victory in the third round of their main event fight. The bout between the former champion and #3 ranked contender in the division was to determine who’s next in line to challenge the winner of the title bout at UFC 275 in Singapore.

With a victory over Rakic, Jan was able to maintain and justify his position as the #1 ranked contender in the division. It was a close fight that saw Jan make heavy investments in leg kicks and mix it up well on the ground, showing a stark difference from his performance against Glover Texiera at UFC 267 where he was submitted by a rear-naked choke

However, an injury Jan suffered to his eye during the fight has made his immediate future uncertain as he might require eye surgery in the coming days. The cut to eye was caused early in round 2 and Jan mentioned that he lost all vision in the eye soon after for the rest of the fight

Though the champion Glover Texiera stated earlier that a win over Rakic will solidify Jan’s eligibility to run it ack against him, Jan wanted to leave no doubts in anyone’s minds about what lies next for him. In the post-fight press conference while talking to the media about the injury he suffered, when asked if he still wants to challenge for the title, Jan said, “I hope the UFC gives me another title shot, that I’m gonna be the next one”

Jan Blachowicz went on to state the obvious that since he was number 1 in the ranking it was only his right to challenge for the title next having recently beaten the #3 ranked contender. Current number #2 Jiri Prochazka will challenge for the title at UFC 275 and a victory for him should set up a bout between BJP and Blachowicz.

He however also clarified that he has to take care of his first and also plans to spend some time vacationing in the USA with his fiance and son.
