“Definitely a possibility-” Jared Cannonier open to fight Khamzat Chimaev, considers him a legit wrestler and not a ‘crotch sniffer’

Chimaev just tweeted a few days ago the number "185" indicating that he will steer his career from welterweight up to middleweight and that's where Cannonier is a top contender.

Jared Cannonier is ready to bring back joy to his fans come December this year when he will make a strong attempt to bounce back from the loss of his last fight as he will face Sean Strickland in the main-event slot of UFC Fight Night: Apex on December 17, 2022 in Las Vegas. Cannonier is #2 ranked middleweight at the age of 38 and is 15-6 in his overall MMA career.

Ahead of his fight with Strickland within a span of nearly 3 months, Cannonier talks with The Schmo about his last fight against UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya not going his way, his reaction to the postponement of Strickland fight due to the latter’s finger infection and much more. In the midst of all, Cannonier is asked about Khamzat Chimaev’s subtle announcement to fight at middleweight next and is asked if he will be fighting the undefeated UFC fighter.

“It’s definitely a possibility that I could be fighting him sooner or later,” says Cannonier. “My thoughts on him as an opponent is damn, he’s a damn good grappler, you know, he’s really good at taking guys down and progressing from there, he’s not a crotch sniffer so, hats off to him for being a fighter as far as using his wrestling to fight, not just using it…”

In another question, Cannonier was asked that aside from him, former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is the most deserving fighter to fight for a third title shot in the latter’s legacy. Cannonier and Whittaker fought each other back in October 2020 at UFC 254 in Fight Island, Abu Dhabi. Whittaker swept with the victory over Cannonier via unanimous decision. Here’s what Cannonier had to say.

“Yes, absolutely,” says Cannonier. “And name alone, the things that he’s done but, after his last fight with Izzy [Adesanya], the way he just handled Vettori, yeah he’s definitely up there, top 3 fighters at the very least, he is #1, you know… I did him hear him say he’s the most dangerous man in the division and you know, my ego’s screaming to the top of the lungs at the back of my head… but he can say what he wants to say about himself. I would like to test that,” he continued.
