Jiri Prochazka is an enigma. The former light heavyweight champion follows the Bushido code. He recently fought Alex Pereira for the vacant light heavyweight title but lost via second-round TKO. His upcoming fight is at UFC 300 against Aleksandar Rakic.
Prochazka has many strange ways of training. He famously sat in darkness after he won the light heavyweight title from Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. Recently, Prochazka shared a video of him training in the woods, punching trees. The training drew comparison to Tony Ferguson, who also does similar things. Ferguson recently had David Goggins on his corner in his recent fight.
In the video, Prochazka throws punches in bunches and also some kicks. He also shadowboxes elbows in the video and did not put power in the punches he threw. Ferguson has done the same in the past, but on steel posts. Prochazka has a deep affinity towards the Samurai lifestyle.
Jiri Prochazka headlined UFC 295 with Alex Pereira, breaking the second-highest live gate record. His upcoming fight against Rakic remains highly anticipated for the fans. Prochazka has only fought in the UFC four times and is already in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Fans react to Jiri Prochazka training in the woods
Jiri Prochazka is a fan favorite. MMA fans eagerly follow Prochazka’s life through his social media. Therefore, fans quickly noticed his recent training video in the woods. It even got him the moniker of ‘Heavyweight Tony Ferguson’ from netizens. In his prime, Ferguson had a wide variety of unconventional training methods.
The video spread like wildfire on X. Some praised Prochazka for the unconventional training method whilst others criticized the method. Nevertheless, the video got more than 50K views on social media.
Prochazka will have a tall task at hand in Aleksandar Rakic. Rakic is an inch taller than Prochazka, but Prochazka enjoys a slight reach advantage. Rakic did not compete in 2023 after his injury during his fight with Jan Blachowicz in May of 2022. Blachowicz and Rakic were to rematch at UFC 297, but Blachowicz withdrew due to injury.
