UFC Atlantic City card delivered fireworks for the fans. Joaquin Buckley defeated Vicente Luque in the co-main event of the card. Looking forward to a bright future, Buckley took aim at a rival from the past. He wasted no time dismissing the possibility of a rematch with Kevin Holland in the post-fight presser.
The remarks came after a continuous back and forth between Buckley and Kevin Holland on social media. Buckley talked about how he chased Holland for a rematch, but Holland kept denying it. A reporter asked him whether he would still want that rematch next. This is what Buckley replied:
I want him back no more. He lost to MVP. Damn, poor child. He messed up the money… Now, we just looking forward, right.Joaquin Buckley during the UFC Atlantic City Post fight presser
Kevin Holland recently lost to Michael ‘Venom’ Page at UFC 299 via a unanimous decision. This fight marked MVP’s debut fight in the UFC. This was Holland’s second consecutive loss. The short but pointed statement suggested that Buckley wanted another ranked opponent with a recent win. Buckley is on a 3-fight win streak since entering the welterweight division. He was also responsible for one of the most memorable knockouts in the UFC ever.
Buckley further had no opponent in mind for his next fight. He wanted a ranked opponent next. Regardless of his next opponent, Buckley’s dismissive tone towards a potential ‘Trailblazer‘ rematch sent a clear message. He has moved on from their previous encounter and remains focused on entering the title picture.
Joaquin Buckley thanks Vicente Luque for not ducking him
Knockout artist Joaquin Buckley defeated Vicente Luque impressively at UFC Atlantic City. Buckley furiously struck Luque with intense ground-and-pound. The referee halted the battle at 3:17 of the second round. Luque froze on the ground and kept his guard up. Ultimately, the referee stopped the fight after Buckley continuously pounded on ‘The Silent Assassin.’
Buckley spoke about Luque during the octagon interview. He noted other ranked fighters did not want to face him. This might be directed toward Kevin Holland, who refuses to fight him.
Everybody that I called out, never wanted to give me the opportunity, but Vicente was the only one. Aint nothing but love for that man.Joaquin Buckley via the octagon interview
Buckley showed appreciation for Luque, highlighting his regard even when fighting fiercely. The win cemented Buckley’s formidable welterweight presence. He displayed modesty and good sportsmanship as well. The forthcoming UFC Fight Night event in St. Louis might feature the welterweight fighter as he expressed an interest to fight on that card.
