Joe Rogan possibly has the biggest podcast in the world – with a humongous reach and an equally veritable influence, his words are amplified to millions across the globe. With that, comes the responsibility to delve into topics that are abuzz at any given moment.

A lot has been going on in the news right now. However, something that has dominated airwaves over the last week or so isElon Musk’s $44 bn. Twitter deal finally wrapping up, and him acquiring control of the company. Musk has appeared on Rogan’s podcast before, so it made sense for the veteran podcaster to talk about it. For the assignment, comedian Bridget Phetasy was a suitable dancing partner.

Delving headfirst into the news of Twitter’s takeover and Elon Musk’s appearance at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, Phetasy said “Elon took over Twitter today, like we live in a simulation.” They also dished about Musk’s sense of humour – the Tesla CEO turned up to the Twitter headquarters with a sink in his hand, symbolizing the joke, ‘Let that sink in.’

Twitter has always been seen as the platform with the biggest potential for hate to spew uncontrollably. As a result, the last few months of the ex-CEO of the company, Jack Dorsey, were spent in an erratic frenzy where a couple of big names were banned.

Now that Elon Musk is at the helm, the landscape of Twitter might change completely. The SpaceX founder has usually pandered to many talking points that one-half of the political divide endorses. His arrival to the company also meant that ex-POTUS Donald Trump could return to the website, which caused quite the furore.

Expressing the need for free speech while talking with Phetasy, Rogan emphasized how Musk will usher in a ‘reasonable exchange of ideas’. He added, “I think we have a real problem with discourse on Twitter. What some would like to do is silence those that have opposing viewpoints, and then you get all this positive feedback from all the people that agree with you.

Joe Rogan has in the past, caught a lot of flak from internet users over some of the comments he has made. At the forefront reign his controversies regarding his opinions about vaccine mandates (and masks!), transgender participation in sport, and otherwise, and of course, regulation of free speech. It feels like Twitter will begin afresh with its content policies, as Musk announced – If that is the case, then it’ll be interesting to see how a famous voice like Joe Rogan solidifies his place even more under a favourable setting.
