Judging in MMA is hard and gets highly controversial in many cases. Not every time, fighters are able to get a finish and in these cases, judges are responsible to give their verdict and declare the winner. In the UFC, lately, there have been various fighters for which fans thought the judges’ scorecards weren’t appropriate. Joe Rogan has voiced the same in his recent podcast.
Recently, while talking about the matter with UFC fighter Cory Sandhagen andJoe Rogan mentioned that there should be a secondary scoring system. Rogan explained that instead of allowing casuals the platform should verify experts and hardcore fans who should be eligible to score the fights.
He said, “If you have someone who’s verified. You got these guys that are former fighters or like hardcore fans, practitioners, people who really understand martial arts, trainers and maybe you get verified. So you can participate. It’s not a bad idea. At least, we should have a secondary score that doesn’t count.”
Furthermore, according to Rogan, it should affect the real scores of the judges but it definitely will give a clear picture of how fans and experts at home thought of the fight.

Most controversial scoring in recent UFC fights

Controversial scoring and unfair judgment have occurred a lot in the past. While most of them are forgotten some of them have stuck with the fans still now. However, recently UFC fans have experienced some of the most outrageous scorings.
Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley

The pair fought each other in Abu Dhabi last year at UFC 280. It was an important match for Sean O’Malley who had challenged Yan to the fight. Going into the fight, Yan was the favorite but O’Malley showed great competitiveness and went three rounds with the Russian.
However, according to many, it wasn’t enough for him to win the fight but to everyone’s surprise, O’Malley was announced as the winner via split decision. Post-fight it was revealed that around 26 media scores were against O’Malley and most fans stated the decision as a ‘robbery’.
Paddy Pimblett vs Jared Gordon

Paddy Pimblett went home with a unanimous decision win over Jared Gordon at UFC 282 but the decision was highly criticized by fans for one of the biggest robberies of all time. Throughout the fight, Gordon outstruck the Scouser and didn’t give him any space. When asked about the incident, UFC president Dana White simply avoided answering it.
