Joe Rogan has been around in the UFC for a long time and has seen a lot of crazy MMA action. However, according to Rogan, Demetrious Johnson takes the first place for having one of the most outrageous submissions of all time. In one of the episodes of the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, Rogan and Demetrious Johnson talked about the iconic submission of Ray Borg that took place at UFC 216.
Rogan mentioned that it was one of the most ferocious submissions of all time as DJ got an arm bar mid-air on Borg. Rogan while talking to Mighty Mouse also looked surprised when he got to know that DJ actually practiced the love numerous times in his training.
Rogan said: “That finish was one of the wildest submissions I’ve ever seen. Suplex to armbar in the air and then you told me you practiced that and that you hit that in practice. That’s one of the wildest finishes I’ve ever seen.”
Johnson and Borg fought for five rounds in order to get to the UFC Flyweight Championship and it was extremely entertaining for the fans. However, in the fifth round, Johnson lifted Borg from the bag and connected that submission and the crowd went wild.
Joe Rogan names prime Demetrious Johnson as the greatest MMA fighter
Joe Rogan is a huge fan of Demetrious Johnson and has a tremendous amount of respect for the former UFC champion. So much so that, Rogan even put DJ on the pinnacle of the best MMA fighters of all time.
Rogan once went to Mike Tyson‘s podcast show, “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” where the boxing legend asked Rogan about the greatest MMA fighter and Rogan mentioned ‘Mighty Mouse’.
Rogan explained that during his prime Johnson was just different and was levels ahead of any other fighter he was fighting. Rogan was highly impressed by his speed, agility, etc, and couldn’t figure out what was happening. “When Mighty Mouse was in his prime, he was so magnificent he was so fast and he was doing things that you couldn’t believe how he could do,” said Rogan.
It’s a stain on UFC that decided to trade DJ to One Championship in return for Ben Askaren and the promotion did face a lot of criticism from the fans for it. However, DJ continued to extend his legacy in One Championship by winning the flyweight title in 2022.
