Joe Rogan break into tears as Leon Edwards makes an emotional call to his mother after historic win against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278

Leon Edwards just made history and gave fight fans one of the biggest upsets in recent times. The Brit came in as the underdog against Kamaru Usman and went out as the new welterweight champion of the world.
Edwards faced a lot of criticism as everybody doubted his credentials to beat Usman. As expected by many, Edwards was getting out volume by Usman and was on the verge of losing the fight. However, in the last minute, ‘Rocky’ connected a brutal head kick out of nowhere and dropped Usman out cold.
“I was born in Jamaica with nothing. I lived in a wooden shed with a zinc roof. Look at me now. Edwards told Joe Rogan after the fight. Pound for pound, headshot, dead. That’s it. I said it’s possible, we can win a belt from the UK, I told you…I want to first of all thank god. Mum, I love you, I told you I’d do it for you, I told you I’d change your life. All week I felt like this is my moment, everything in the past, the two years, the pandemic, look at me now, I’m champion of the world.”

After the fight, Leon Edwards was captured talking to his mother on a video call. The fighter was in tears as he spoke with his mother and told her about his win and what it means to him.
Edwards in the video can be seen reassuring his mother that he did what he promised and became the welterweight champion. He said: “I told you, I told you, mom. I told you, I would do it”. The whole thing was incredibly heart-touching and emotional that would make anybody tear up.
The same happened with the commentary panel as Joe Rogan, Jon Anik and Daniel Cormier all were in tears watching Edwards calling his mom. Rogan can be heard saying that he is highly impressed by Edwards’ behaviour. He said:
“Oh my goodness, I’m so blown away. Look at that. Wow…he’s crying with his mom on the phone.”
Rogan is extremely passionate about the sport of MMA and is the first person to speak to the fighters after a fight. He is the person that interviews the fighters when they are high on emotions, frustration etc. This is one of those moments that makes the sport what it is. Nevertheless, it was an amazing night for Edwards and it will be interesting to see what the new champion will do in his reign.
