Joe Rogan says Benny Perrette was killed by Emile Griffith

Joe Rogan is a renowned combat sports connoisseur who often talks about fights on his podcast. In a recent episode of the ‘Joe Rogan Experience,’ the UFC color commentator spoke about some extreme fights that led to severe consequences.

Joe mentioned the infamous death of Benny Paret during his fight with Emile Griffith. The infamous fight saw some of the biggest controversies in boxing history.

Benny Paret was killed by Emile Griffith. He beat him to death. After Benny Paret teased him for being gay, talking shit about for being gay…he wasn't trying to, he was trying to knock him out

After allegedly being hurled with slurs, Griffith went on to brutally beat up Paret. In that fight, the referee allowed Griffith to beat up a defenseless Paret. The Cuban fighter passed away after serious brain hemorrhaging from punches to his head.

After that Rogan went on to talk about another boxing match that took place between Gerald McClellan and Nigel Benn. In that fight, Benn punished McClellan so badly that the fighter went into a coma for 2 weeks. McClellan never recovered from it and became blind with a hearing disability.

Joe Rogan has been commentating in the UFC for over 20 years and has always been passionate about fighter safety. It does not come as a surprise that Rogan has often been very critical of the sport of boxing and its safety concerns.

The UFC commentator suggests referees with a larger physique are essential to stop fighters teeing off at their opponents.

"You need a big referee with big men. You need someone who can separate those guys."

Contrary to popular belief, MMA has seen very less devastating health issues compared to boxing. Despite wearing the bigger gloves, boxers often take more damage. The rule allowing them to stand back up after a knockdown and continue fighting has put many boxers at risk.
