Francis Ngannou made headlines last year when he parted ways with the UFC due to contract negotiations falling through. He has since joined the Professional Fighters League (PFL), a move that has generated a lot of excitement within the MMA community.
In a recent conversation with Joe Rogan on his podcast, Ngannou shed light on his past experiences with the UFC and his contractual challenges. During the discussion, Ngannou revealed a particular moment when he had to borrow money to fund his training camp for an upcoming fight while still under contract with the UFC.
Previously, Ngannou claimed that the contract was evil, and they never reached any agreement during the negotiations. During the podcast with Rogan, he said: “We didn’t come to a agreement at all. I was pressure financially. At that level, I was expecting to fight at least two or three times a year and then I get to the point I have one fight, i have nothing. So I was limited of income. Then I started borrowing money. Even before the Stipe fight, I need to call to ask advance of my purse to finance my training camp. I have no money but I was there training getting ready.”
Ngannou disclosed that the UFC attempted to put the brakes on his fighting frequency, causing him to compete only once a year. This reduced his earnings substantially, forcing him to request advance payments to cover the expenses for his training camp ahead of his second bout against Stipe Miocic.
Despite the financial challenges and the added stress, Francis Ngannou remained resolute and committed to his training regimen. However, the increasing tension and contractual disputes ultimately culminated in his departure from the organization, even though he held the title of heavyweight champion.
Francis Ngannou couldn’t believe he was being trained by his childhood hero Mike Tyson for his boxing debut
Fans were in for a big surprise when Francis Ngannou announced that he was stepping into the boxing ring against heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. They’ve been talking about this match for over a year. However, now it’s finally set to happen on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.
What really got fans buzzing was when Ngannou said he was teaming up with legendary boxer Mike Tyson for this fight. Tyson, who’s a big fan of Ngannou, didn’t waste any time and started training with him.
In an interview with Joe Rogan, Ngannou shared that he looked up to Tyson when he was growing up. Hence, it’s unbelievable that he’s now training alongside the legendary “Iron Mike” for the fight.
Even though it might be for a short time, fans are super excited to see what Tyson can teach Ngannou. This might help him go up against one of the most dominant heavyweight champions fans have seen recently. No doubt, this is going to be a huge event because both Fury and Ngannou are incredibly popular.
