Retired undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov had a flawless MMA career. He barely lost rounds in the UFC. However, like Floyd Mayweather‘s first fight with Jose Luis Castillo, there is an asterisk to Nurmagomedov’s undefeated legacy. It was his fight against Gleison Tibau. Joe Rogan spoke of Tibau on his podcast.
Even though Tibau lost the bout via unanimous decision, critics of Nurmagomedov consider it controversial. Nonetheless, this is what Rogan said about Tibau on his podcast.
Nobody is bigger at 155lbs than Gleison Tibau. Gleison Tibau looks like a f*cking light heavyweight. Look how big he is, look at that f*cking size of the guy...built like a tank. He's the most diesel guy that I've ever seen at 155.Joe Rogan via JRE
Even though Rogan stated that Tibau looked like a light heavyweight fighter, Tibau has competed only at lightweight and welterweight. In his fight with Nurmagomedov, Tibau stood his ground and defended all the 13 takedown attempts from the Russian fighter. Moreover, he even scored a takedown over Nurmagomedov. He also outlanded Nurmagomedov in strikes, but Nurmagomedov controlled him more.
In addition to Nurmagomedov, Tibau has also fought Jim Miller, Tony Ferguson, Michael Johnson, and Islam Makhachev. He lost his respective bouts to all the aforementioned fighters. Makhachev even finished Tibau via knockout. Johnson also knocked out Tibau, whereas Ferguson won via submission.
Joe Rogan reveals the best MMA fighter ever
MMA is a relatively new sport, but it already has candidates whom fans consider the greatest of all time. Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and Demetrious Johnson. Joe Rogan revealed his pick on one of his podcast episodes with David Goggins. This was before Goggins was in the training camp for Tony Ferguson‘s fight against Paddy Pimblett for UFC 296.
Rogan said on the podcast that there are certain candidates he considers the best. They were Demetrious Johnson and Jon Jones. Rogan revered Johnson, whom he considered an athlete who was the perfect definition of a Mixed Martial Artist. It holds credibility as Johnson was and still is equally versatile in all aspects of MMA.
The other fighter Rogan considered to be the best is Jon Jones. Jones is now a heavyweight champion in the UFC after he took a hiatus after a long light heavyweight title reign. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abudlmanap Nurmagomedov, also had similar thoughts to Rogan’s. Nonetheless, his favorite fighter was Georges St-Pierre, another fighter many consider the best.
