“Talking about being abducted by aliens” – Joe Rogan once advised Georges St-Pierre to retire from MMA

Joe Rogan advised GSP to retire! Georges St-Pierre has been one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC. Often when fans speak about the greatest fighters in the world, St-Pierre is a common name that comes up. The former two-division champion of the world has left a historic mark on the sport of MMA. Many fighters from the current generation look to emulate GSP’s greatness in the cage.

While St-Pierre enjoys global popularity, the fighter also had his fair share of troubles. Before he could beat Michael Bisping to win the UFC middleweight championship, St-Pierre was away from the octagon for 4 years. In 2013, GSP defended his welterweight title against Johnny Hendricks.

While ‘Rush’ was known to cruise past his opponents, St-Pierre had a tough time dealing with Hendricks. After 5 hard-fought rounds, GSP was declared the winner. However, many people believed Hendricks was the rightful victor between the two.

Joe Rogan, who was a commentator during the fight, was of the same belief that Hendricks had won. However, he did not stop there. The veteran UFC color commentator at that time advised Georges St-Pierre to retire from competition

Veteran broadcaster Joe Rogan is one of the longest-serving employees of the UFC. Working since 1997, Rogan has been a mainstay in the promotion. While the color commentator is known to share a friendly relationship with St-Pierre, he had quite an honest take on the fighter.

After GSP’s fight against Johnny Hendricks, Joe Rogan appeared on The Opie and Anthony show. Advising the Canadian to retire, Rogan said, “I think Georges should retire. One of the reasons I think Georges should retire is he was on my podcast and he was talking about being abducted by aliens. I was going, ‘you think you’ve been abducted by aliens?’ He starts talking about missing time. He started talking about driving his car and all of a sudden he’s at home and he has no idea [how] he got there.

The veteran color commentator felt the reason behind St-Pierre’s comments was the punishment he had taken. Rogan added, “I think it’s head kicks … That fight he had some serious memory loss (at UFC 167). I think he’s taken too many shots. An interesting statistic is that Georges has taken more punches and kicks in the last three fights than any of his fights, ever.”

In fact, 50% of the shots he’s taken his entire career were in the last three fights. I think he should get out. I know the UFC probably doesn’t want to hear me say that. I know that could be a huge rematch.”

While Rogan gave this advice to GSP, the fighter did not follow the same. Even though he stayed away from the sport for 4 years, in 2017, GSP made a successful comeback against Michael Bisping at UFC 217. Winning the middleweight belt against the British fighter, GSP solidified his position as an all-time great. What are your thoughts on this saga? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
