Notorious gambler Billy Walters was a recent guest on Joe Rogan Experience. Walters is one of the most well-known high-stakes bettors in sports. He had famously bet $4.5 million on a Super Bowl game. Moreover, he had also written a book about sports gambling, which Joe Rogan had read. After reading the book, Rogan discovered that sports betting was much more complex than he thought.

Rogan is not a fan of gambling, unlike Dana White. However, unlike Walkers, Dana White did not bet on sports games. White’s gambling proclivities are mainly in the casinos. Nonetheless, Rogan talked in depth about gambling with Walters. Moreover, he shared his skepticism of certain factors that could cause problems in combat sports gambling. This is what Rogan said about it.

The thing that would give me pause is scoring. Judges' scoring is horrible. It's the worst part of the sport. It's so bad that maybe 10 to 20% of fights you'll have one card that's so off.... And I always wonder if someone's on the take...That would be a real issue with me if I was gambling, particularly on boxing.

Rogan also alleged that boxing promoters like Don King and Bob Arum might have done things illegally. Moreover, he also shared his thoughts that promoters might influence the judges, who could sway decisions in their favor. Walters also shared his thoughts on the matter as he was a manager who had even managed Roger Mayweather, the uncle and late coach of Floyd Mayweather, in the past.

Walters revealed that the politics in the boxing realm forced him to not bet on it or manage fighters. Rogan and Walters also discussed the case of Manny Pacquiao, who did not reveal that he had an injury before his fight with Mayweather.

Joe Rogan explains the UFC betting scandal on JRE

The UFC betting scandal made many headlines at the time, resulting in the ban of James Krause and the people associated with him. Joe Rogan spoke of the scandal on his recent podcast episode with Billy Walters, a renowned gambler.

Even though Walters was a renowned gambler, he was oblivious to the betting scandal. Nonetheless, Rogan explained it to Walters. He revealed that Krause leaked inside information about his fighters, and a suspicious betting activity caught him. Due to the huge amounts involved in MMA betting, the UFC banned Krause and, as a precaution, banned UFC fighters and personnel from making bets on UFC fights.

Nonetheless, Rogan did not think inside information was valuable in combat sports like other sports. Rogan stated that fighters had even won with injuries, thus making betting in MMA a difficult task.
