UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland will headline UFC 297 with Dricus Du Plessis. Recently, Strickland appeared on comedian Theo Von‘s podcast, This Past Weekend. The appearance was before his infamous brawl with Du Plessis in the audience of UFC 296. Strickland broke down emotionally on the podcast when his childhood trauma came up in their conversation.
Recently, a clip from the podcast went viral on social media due to the connection with UFC commentator Joe Rogan. On the podcast, Strickland delved into the relationship dynamics between Rogan and his producer, Jamie Vernon. This is what Strickland said about it.
When I did the Rogan podcast, what's Rogan's guy? Jamie Dude, I was thrown off by Jamie. Yeah, oh man, I think Rogan abuses him, dude.... Like I was picturing like a younger white nerdy kid, you know? No, he's angry. He's angry....I think Rogan disciplines him.... because you'll see, dude, every now and then, Rogan will let that slip. .... Every now and then you'll see Rogan discipline him. Like he'll speak out of turn.... like you could tell it's like that abusive father that like, you know, is at the soccer game that like, like slips a little bit and you're like, oh, I wonder what it's like when they, when, when they're at home by himself.Joe Rogan via JRE

Strickland found the relationship between Rogan and Vernon to be that of an abusive father and son. Theo Von did not agree with the assessment but found it funny. Nonetheless, Rogan and Vernon have a cordial relationship. Rogan described Vernon’s importance during the podcast episode with Derek MPMD.
Strickland will look to defend the title for the first time at UFC 297. Rogan won’t be in the commentary booth at UFC 297, as it is Canada. The comedian only does PPVs in the US. Dominick Cruz will fill in for Rogan in the commentary booth at UFC 297.
Sean Strickland’s past accusations of fellow fighters
Sean Strickland made a name for himself with his outspoken remarks. He has, at times, thrown shade at fellow UFC fighters inside and outside his division. His most insensitive remarks were against UFC welterweight Ian Garry and his wife, Layla Anna-Lee. Strickland accused Anna-Lee as a sexual predator. Moreover, he even labeled Garry as a ‘C*ck’.

Strickland’s remarks about his upcoming opponent, Dricus Du Plessis, and his team were speculative. He went on to insinuate that Du Plessis and his coach were homosexuals in a derogatory way. It was not true, and it was the reason why Du Plessis referenced Strickland’s childhood trauma during trash talks.
The first fighter to get the full ire of Strickland was former opponent Israel Adesanya. He has accused Adesanya of being a ‘Chinese wh*re,’ ‘Chinese Sl*t,’ and ‘Dog molester,’ among other things. However, Strickland never criticized Adesanya as a fighter, as he always spoke highly of Adesanya’s skills.
