Rousimar Palhares made a name for himself, but not in a way to be admired. He has been listed among the ‘dirtiest’ players of the game and it cost him his UFC contract.

He got breached from his UFC contract 24 hours after his controversial end to the match against Mike Pierce. The welterweight bout took place at UFC Fight Night 29, where Palhares secured the ‘controversial’ victory via submission in under 31 seconds over Pierce. Palhares locked Pierce in a heel hook, where Pierce had to submit immediately, but Palhares refused to let go of the lock even after the tap out.

The referee had to step into the situation and break the hold. But the damage had been done. Those extra seconds of obstinance cost him his job. Dana White made it clear regarding the whole situation and announced that Palhares will be punished for the unfair play and breaking the sporting spirit.

It is not the first instance where he did his opponent dirty. His match with Jake Shields in WSOF, where he poked his eye at the very end of the match is listed among the dirtiest moments in MMA history. The ending did cost Palhares his WSOF contract. His ‘bending the law’ kind of behavior may seem normal to him but the incredible welterweight fighter is so unaware of the receipts he has been collecting.

During Rogan’s podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ he discussed the controversial Palhares moment which led to his departure from the UFC.

He said, “Okay! That’s what it was. He was released after holding onto a heel hook of Mike Pierce in 2013. Yeah! But look man that guy was particularly scary when he fought because he was so strong and his body was so well designed for heel hooks. He could grab hold of you and rip your sh*t apart.” He added, “He makes it scarier for other people and he’s probably used to doing it.”

He also put focuses on Palhaes’ childhood and said, “I think he came from a really really bad childhood and he’s talked about it in depth about growing up on a farm and being forced to eat pig slop when he was a little boy. That cut that he has on his chest, that big scar he sealed that up with glue. Yeah! Like crazy sh*t.”

All these stories about Palhares’ bad past surely lead him to be the man he is today.
