UFC 296, the last pay-per-view event of the year dragged on with a slow main event. It took place at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas. The all-out welterweight affair between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington was sluggish and lackluster at times. But ringside, things were much more amped up with Sean Strickland making his first defense against Dricus Du Plessis, all pun intended. The two have engaged in a build-up banter and slurs moving towards UFC 297. Joe Rogan has weighed in on the same.

Triggered by recent remarks about his childhood, Strickland couldn’t wait to strike back at the 20-2 middleweight, Du Plessis. Signaling Gilbert Burns‘ son and wife Bruna to move away, ‘Tarzan’ lunged on the South African, true to his name and essence. Speaking on the matter ringside with commentators Daniel Cormier and John Anik, here’s what Rogan had to say:

Out of nowhere, that’s kinda crazy. Well, it’s so ridiculous that the middleweight champion of the world would do that. Yeah, he is out of his mind. He really is nuts. He’s getting off; he enjoys it. He had to get time, you know. Don’t do that. Don't fight in the crowd.

Cormier weighed in that his rivalry with the then-light heavyweight Jon Jones had been a full-out rivalry. But a brawl in the crowd is not a permissible course or notion. Rogan too chimed in, warning off against the ‘Pychopath’-ish behavior. Check out the whole footage of the incident below.

Later, speaking for ESPN MMA, Megan Olivi bifurcated from the UFC 296 commentators and interviewed Du Plessis backstage. Correspondingly, the middleweight contender added that he is indifferent to what triggers Strickland and remains ready for a fight. He has also jibed back at the opponent in a tweet before.

Dricus Du Plessis spoofs Sean Stricklands’ ringside assault in mean tweet

Du Plessis has taken to X to retort on the same. Feigning off Stricklands’ “33% finish rate,he mocked him for hitting like a little girl. Conversely, though, fans have reacted with an adverse notion in mind. Even a few fighters have reacted to it. Check out the following comment on his tweet.

Later in an interview with ESPN’s Megan Olivi, Du Plessis said he felt his actions to be righteously apt, on calling out Stricklan’ds dad. He pointed out that Strickland himself has currently feuded with any and everybody. This includes the likes of him, Sean O’Malley, and even Colby Covington.
