Jon Jones recently had a heated conversation with Tom Aspinall, the current interim heavyweight champion. Aspinall made his status known as the next in line to confront Jones. Jones responded with a barrage of angry posts, challenging Aspinall’s credentials and mocking his “infamous callouts.”
Jon Jones did not like how Aspinall tweeted regarding his ego. He accused the interim champion of hypocrisy in a post on X. This is what Jones said to Aspinall directly:
Tom, you talking about someone’s ego running wild is one of the most hypocritical things ever., You literally haven’t kept my balls out of your mouth since you won that imaginary championship.Jon Jones via X
Jones also dismissed the significance of Aspinall’s temporary title, claiming it signified “absolutely nothing.” Check out the second tweet from Jones to Aspinall:
My stipe fight was booked well before yours came along, you weren’t even the back up fighter.... All your fight did at Madison Square Garden was confused the fans. Good thing the UFC and it’s too long time standing champions are all on the same page. The UfC, Stipe and I have unfinished business, it’s really just that simple.Jon Jones via X
The UFC champion hinted at retiring following the Miocic bout. However, he made it clear that he emphasized winning, cementing his legacy. Jones stated that, despite Aspinall’s present dominance, defeating him would have little impact on his legacy.
What did Tom Aspinall say to make Jon Jones mad?
Tom Aspinall continues to criticize Jon Jones and expresses a desire to face the current heavyweight champion. The chances of the bout taking place anytime soon are small. Due to Jones’ recent elbow surgery and the scheduled “legacy fight” against Stipe Miocic in 2024, Aspinall, unfazed, remains steadfast in his calls out.
Aspinall recently said that he recognizes Jones’ remarkable résumé, vastly outperforming his own. He emphasized his desire to confront Jones since Jones is considered the greatest fighter ever. Aspinall confronted Jones, asking him to understand his motive for wanting to defeat a fighter of his caliber. He also blamed him for letting his ego run wild. Check out what he said in the tweet below:
Aspinall’s perseverance in pursuing Jones indicates a real desire to prove himself against one of the sport’s all-time greats. While the timing may not be right for an imminent clash, the continued verbal sparring adds a fascinating layer to the story of the UFC heavyweight division.
