The highly anticipated MMA clash between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and boxing legend Tyson Fury seems to be put to rest. Fury has directed his frustration toward podcaster Joe Rogan for fueling the ongoing feud between him and Jones. The controversy was sparked when Rogan predicted Jones’ victory if he were to face Fury and only one man would walk out of the room.
Responding to Rogan’s comments, Tyson Fury launched into a clap back not lacking profanity. He spoke about how Rogan initiated the beef between him and Jones. The tension even attracted the attention of former UFC champion Francis Ngannou and UFC president Dana White, who both voiced their support for a potential fight between Jones and Fury to settle the dispute once and for all.
However, it seems that Fury has realized the entire discussion has spiralled out of control. Speaking at a recent Q&A session, Fury expressed his disbelief at the idea of entering a cage and engaging in wrestling with Jones. Asserting his status as the lineal world heavyweight champion, Fury stated, “Why would I even dream of going in a cage and wrestling and all that? It’s not my thing.”
Fury shifted the blame to Joe Rogan, referring to him as a “little s***bag” who instigated the entire debacle. Fury continued, praising Jones as the “GOAT of MMA”. But he highlighted Rogan’s claim that Fury would be “absolutely smashed to bits” if locked in a room with him. Fury clarified that he had never entertained the idea of entering an MMA fight against Jones. He firmly stated, “Zero chance of me going in an MMA game and rolling around and all that. Zero.”
Tyson Fury expresses disinterest in MMA; Reveals offer from the UFC
Amidst the ongoing saga, Fury disclosed that he received an offer from the UFC for a “hybrid rules fight” with Jones. But he is not interested due to his lack of interest in MMA. Fury also mentioned the longstanding back-and-forth between him and Ngannou. However, Fury emphasized that his skills were specific to boxing and recounted the struggles boxers face in the world of MMA.
Reflecting on the past, Fury mentioned the rare victory of boxer Ray Mercer over Tim Sylvia in an MMA fight. But Fury acknowledged that most boxers had faced quick defeats when confronted with skilled MMA fighters. He concluded by affirming his disinterest in MMA and openly invited any fighter willing to challenge him in the boxing ring.
As the speculation carry on, it becomes increasingly apparent that Fury has no intention of stepping into the octagon. Only time will tell if these two formidable fighters will ever step into the octagon together. Till then, fans can only speculate. For now, each reigns supreme in their respective domains.
