“What a performance,” Jorge Masvidal, Ali Abdelaziz and more react to Marlon Vera’s career-defining victory at UFC Vegas 53
Marlon Vera
UFC bantamweight Marlon Vera just shook up the world with his inspiring story of how a local guy from Ecuador with no MMA facilities in his birth nation in his time can pave his own way through hard work to prove that he belongs to the elite of the competition in the biggest MMA organisation in the world. Vera just put on a cardio classic, damage heavy performance over #5 ranked bantamweight Rob Font, whose volume heavy striking couldn’t do anything but level up Vera’s confidence going into the later rounds of the fight.
Performing in the five-round for the first time and being the first Ecuadorian to headline a UFC event, Vera might just go big not on rankings but on money as well, since Font missed weight by 2.5 lbs and 20% of his purse will therefore go to Vera. Along with that, if the fight becomes the Fight of the Night in UFC’s bonus column which is most likely to happen, Vera will also have Font’s share of money as well, i.e. all in all taking in more than $100,000 to home tonight.
Marlon Vera shocks the fans with the amount of damage he caused to Rob Font’s face
Vera is now locked and loaded to fight the top bantamweights of the division and has serial wise called out the bantamweight fighters who are currently ranked #4, #3 and #2. In research, it seems that Vera has subtly called out Cory Sandhagen, TJ Dillashaw and Jose Aldo. Vera has fought and lost to Aldo via unanimous decision, so maybe fighting the former UFC featherweight champion for avenging his loss might solidify his status as legit contender for a title shot.
On Twitter, the likes of UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal, famous athlete manager Ali Abdelaziz and numerous sports journalists from notable sports media outlets have poured praise on Marlon “Chito” Vera’s stunning victory, in the due course of which Vera having a knockdown over Font each in round 2,3 and 4 and wobbling the bantamweight in the last.
What do you make of Marlon Vera’s performance at UFC Vegas 53? Who do you think should “Chito” fight next? While Aldo has been suggested before, a fight with either Sandhagen or Dillashaw will be a huge opportunity and exposure to competition for the Ecuadorian mixed martial artist.
