Jorge Masvidal and Daniel Cormier got into an expected war of words on Twitter. The ordeal started when Cormier suggested that Masvidal, who has re-ignited his campaign for a title shot since Leon Edwards’ win at 278, is not very deserving of that spot.

Masvidal is currently on a 3 fight-losing skid and has not managed to gain a single win since his legendary 2019 run. In the meantime 2 of 3 losses were in title fights, being knocked out in one and 50-45ed in another. Against old teammate Colby Covington, Masvidal would suffer the same fate and be ragdolled to a decision.

It is with this context that DC argued that Masvidal certainly shouldn’t be the one challenging for the title right now, especially since the top-ranked welterweights are active once more. However, Masvidal took serious offense to this assessment.

The only reason that Masvidal is campaigning for a fight against Leon is due to him sucker punching Edwards at a UFC England Fight Night. They were also booked to fight last December, however, Masvidal was the one who pulled out from the fight. While the champ himself has said he has always wanted to settle that score with Masvidal, he acknowledges that the Miami native is not the most deserving candidate right now.

For DC’s comments, Masvidal took to Twitter in order to vent out his frustrations. There he accused DC of being salty that he didn’t accept an invite to DC’s YouTube show while also accusing him of riding off of Ariel Helwani’s fame in broadcasting.

The tweet read, ” Guess you’re still butt hurt since I didn’t do the interview you requested on your weak YouTube channel during my fight week. I know you needed my name to produce some sort of views since Ariel went solo and you became a has been. Just make sure when Dana calls you and tells you to promote the biggest fight the current champ can make in the division which is me, wear your best suit from DXL and make sure you do as your told like a good boy. Maybe you’ll get a treat from your master “

While the tweet had some valid observations, the fundamental point behind the rant being Jorge deserves a title shot deflates the whole argument. DC was quick to respond via his Twitter and he knew better than to directly address Masvidal since someone else may always be pulling the strings.

DC’s tweet read, “Jorge you’ve always been the man, Malik stay off his page. I stand by what I said. You don’t get unlimited title fights Malki, beat Durinho get to 1-3 in last 4 and maybe get a title shot. See Malki now you got me disrespecting my friend Jorge”

The former champion and now Hall of Famer, accused Masvidal’s manager of using his client’s account for tweeting at fighters while also standing his ground on the matter, title shots are not be given away lightly.

DC would later also post a picture of all his titles with a wink face emoji. What are your thoughts on Masvidal’s campaign to re-enter the title scene?
