Jorge Masvidal is never one to mince words. He has once again found himself in the spotlight due to his ongoing feud with former rival Ben Askren. The animosity between these two fighters dates back to their legendary clash in 2019. This was when Masvidal stunned the world with a five-second knockout, branding himself as the first “BMF” of the UFC.
Recently, Ben Askren accused Masvidal of shying away from an MMA rematch. Askren claimed that Masvidal was afraid of reliving the embarrassment. However, it appears that Masvidal had a different idea in mind. Instead of a rematch in the octagon, Jorge Masvidal proposed a boxing match for a showdown in the ring. Askren responded with a firm no about a boxing match.
In an exclusive interview with MMAMania.com, Masvidal didn’t pull any punches when addressing Askren’s accusations. He said, “This guy is still talking sh*t, bro? This guy is fu—king idiot, bro. Listen, he is fuc*ing brain-dead from that knee. I’m retired from MMA, you fu—ing moron. There’s no f**king knees in boxing,…” (H/T MMA Mania). He urged Askren to reconsider as Askren could potentially earn more in one night than he did in his entire career. Masvidal also called Askren a coward for not wanting to box.
Masvidal didn’t stop there. He even extended a charitable olive branch. He suggested they could settle things on the wrestling mat after the boxing match if Ben Askren were up for it. All the proceeds could go to a good cause. Masvidal firmly believed there was a demand to see Askren face the consequences of his past actions. He stated that people are willing to pay to see Askren suffer.
What does it take for Jorge Masvidal to make a comeback in the UFC?
Veteran fighter Jorge Masvidal stepped away from the octagon in April due to a string of four consecutive defeats in the UFC. However, he did make a return to the UFC. His mission this time was to crown Justin Gaethje as the new BMF champion in the welterweight division at UFC 291.
During an exclusive chat with TMZ Sports, Masvidal shared his heartfelt desire to re-enter the octagon and reclaim the BMF title he formerly held. Previously, Masvidal had stated that his return wouldn’t be just for the sake of fighting. Instead, his decision hinged on what the UFC brought to the table. He explained that if they were to offer him a payday ten times bigger than usual, it would be hard to turn it down.
But the spotlight didn’t stop there. Masvidal also turned his attention towards the UFC’s superstar, Conor McGregor. In a rather unexpected twist, Masvidal expressed a fervent wish to square off against McGregor. Masvidal’s emotions were unmistakable as he declared his strong desire to fight McGregor, stating that he “cannot stand” the Irishman. If this grudge match were to materialize in the octagon, it would definitely be one of the biggest fights in the UFC.
