BMF champ Jorge Masvidal called off his fighting career at UFC 287 after facing an unannounced decision defeat from Gilbert Burns. One of UFC’s most entertaining and top-5 knockout artists has never won the championship belt.
The four-fight losing streak was a setback for Jorge Masvidal, as he couldn’t gain the same confidence to fight again in the Octagon. This made him call off his career and retire earlier this month. But fans may be surprised sooner or later that Jorge Masvidal is hinting toward his UFC return. It is not even a month, and Jorge is hinting at picking up those gloves in the octagon, which he left on April 8, 2023.
During the talk with ESPN, Masvidal said “I love this sport so f—ing much, bro,” He continued, “So, I’ll never say I’ll never come back, because I love it so much, in a moment I can have so many great memories that just fill me and will stay with me forever about this sport. So, I’ll never say I can’t come back.”
Only three weeks had passed since Jorge announced his UFC retirement after his UFC 287 loss. Jorge is promoting his Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA promotion and will announce the boxing sooner. Masvidal has always been fighting since childhood. That fighting transitioned to martial arts, but the name and impact remained unchanged. Masvidal has always been in the fighting business and can be considered one of the best to create the best fighting hype.
Jorge Masvidal’s Reason to Retire and fight business promotion
Rivalries against Nate Diaz, Kamaru Usman, and Colby Covington are still one of the career highlights of Masvidal. Indirectly pointing out his losses, Masvidal said, “I’ve been feeling from 34 [years old] to 37 that, in that department and solely in that department, my reflexes and reaction time took a big dip,”
Explaining the situation Masvidal said “It’s not where it used to be when I was 35, even. … So, it’s slightly slowed up in the smallest of ways, just a millisecond off. But that millisecond off when we’re talking about that I’m fighting snipers and f—ing sharpshooters on the other side — it counts a lot because I’m not here at some random event. I’m here fighting the world’s best every time out.”
During the ESPN interview, Jorge Masvidal said, “I think martial arts without the gloves.” This is the reason he is bringing the Gamebred Bareknuckle Championship. Earlier, Masvidal’s promotion had great success on April 1st. Now he will come up with the Bareknuckle Championship on May 5. This event will feature the likes of Roy Nelson taking on Dilion Cleckler, former PFL champ Emiliano Sordi, and UFC fighter Anthony Njokuani.
