Jorge Masvidal - Colby Covington

UFC Welterweight Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are nowhere near to getting on each other’s face again, at least if they live as per the law’s orders. Masvidal and Covington, who were best friends for nearly 8 years, poles apart in personality but deemed to be inseparable, started throwing trash talk and fighting words on Twitter in 2019 and then it carried on to such an extent that they just wanted to end each other’s career.

Their aggressive desire finally turned into reality when the UFC 272 was headlined by their heated rivalry. In the fight, Covington dominated Masvidal for all 5 rounds with his unstoppable pace and offensive wrestling. Later on, on March 21, Masvidal attacked Covington in a steakhouse at night in Florida, in an attempt to pay Covington for talking trash about Masvidal’s kids. And yes, Masvidal was arrested for the same until he pleaded not- guilty and was released whilst given a $5,000 bond.

Recently, it has been out that Masvidal has his next court date out and it’s going to be May 12 as given by Judge Zachary James of Florida’s 11th Circuit Court. According to MMA-Junkie, Masvidal on Thursday retained the same not guilty pleas for two counts against him as he previously had entered in written pleas following his arrest.

Additionally, a stay-away order has been issued to Masvidal, who must keep 25 feet away from Covington and 500 feet away from Covington’s residence. He also is not permitted to contact Covington directly or indirectly. The stay-away order was granted because Covington said he is “in fear” of Masvidal after the alleged attack. [h/t MMA Junkie]

What do you make of Masvidal being given a stay-away order from Covington? This will definitely put a cross over the chances of a rematch between the two. But do you think Covington brought this on himself rightfully? Or should Masvidal be the one that should’ve understood that it’s all fight business? Only time will tell when both these gentlemen will reflect on the situation when their career is all set and done.
