Women’s bantamweight champion, Julianna Pena became an overnight sensation after she choked out female G.O.A.T, Amanda Nunes at the co-main event of UFC 269. Pena promised to bring the fight to Nunes, and she executed a perfect game plan to get the victory.
Pena has been calling out champions ever since, and she has her eyes set on the former champion, and probably the biggest female MMA star, Ronda Rousey. Ronda is an Ex-Olympic medalist and inaugural women’s bantamweight champion.
She lost her title to Holly Holm and another loss to Amanda Nunes forced her to leave MMA for good. She made her debut in WWE, and she gained quite a name for herself there as well.
Pena started her MMA journey on TUF Season 18, and she became the first female champ in the history of the show. Pena has been calling out Ronda for a long time, and she even claimed Ronda became a ‘joke in the MMA community after she ran away from the organization.’

Talking to Sports Illustrated, she recalled her first interaction with Ronda, she said, “Ronda told me, ‘You’re going to give me a tougher fight than Miesha Tate could ever dream about, but when that day comes I’m still going to kick your ass.’ And I said to her, ‘We’ll see.’ So, of course, I want to fight Ronda. That was a fight I was gunning for before I tore out my knee. When I came back, she lost and ran off and hasn’t come back. But, I have a feeling that she wants to come back.”
Pena added, “That has always been a fight that interests me. When Dana White allowed women into UFC, he just handed Ronda a belt. She didn’t have to compete, she didn’t have to do anything.”

“He just said, ‘Hey, welcome to this promotion, here’s this shiny belt.’ After he gave her the belt, she had to fight Liz Carmouche. At that point, I’m on The Ultimate Fighter. I wasn’t fighting one person, I had to fight four people. When I came out as the winner, I was ready to face Ronda.”
