Julianna Pena offers her take on Harrison and Nunes’ friendship! Amanda Nunes is the best female mixed martial artist to ever step inside the octagon. The Lioness became the first female double champ in the history of the UFC, and she has beaten every former champion of her division. She faced a major upset in her last title defense against Julianna Pena at UFC 269.

Nunes was looking to run through Pena, but she gave her a tough competition and managed to secure a rear-naked choke to get the victory. Nobody believe what they saw, but Nunes remained gracious in her defeat and promised to be better. Nunes has been reported to part ways with her long-time gym, American Top Team. Reports from various sources suggest that the former two-division champ and the current UFC featherweight champion is looking for a new home to train.

Amanda Nunes has been a face of the ATT and has represented the gym since 2014. She moved to train at ATT after her loss against Cat Zingano, and now she’s moving again following another loss. Nunes would still stay in Florida and will train at her own gym. This decision comes as surprise because of the success she had at the ATT gym.

Many claimed this decision was influenced by her friend, and PFL women’s lightweight champion, Kayla Harrison. These two are at the top of their organizations, and fans are speculating about a fight between them for a long time. None of them have said anything on the matter, but Dana White doesn’t believe it’s the case.

Julianna Pena had something to say about this whole move. Talking on The MMA Hour, she said, “A part of me thinks that she’ll go back, but I was a little bit shocked to hear that she fired her entire team after losing a fight. That was pretty crazy.” Julianna also believes Kayla is just pretending to be Amanda’s friend, and she wants to fight him in the future.

“At the same time, it’s like, you guys call each other friends, right?” Pena continued. “Like, you guys are constantly saying that you are friends and training partners, but then [Harrison] was so upset that I beat Amanda because then that means that she’s not going to fight Amanda? So it’s like, who needs enemies with friends like these? It’s like, ‘We’re training partners, we’re friends, and now I’m devastated that you lost because now I can’t kick your ass.’ Like, what? Awkward.”
