“It is the law of the land” Justin Gaethje Clarifies his bulk up to 165 was 3 hours after he stepped on the scales
Justin Gaethje in his last outing produced a historic 3-round barn burner against Michael Chandler at the iconic Madison Square Garden
In what can be only described as a bizarre day in the world of Mixed Martial Arts, before his bout against Justin Gaethje, UFC Lightweight Champion, Charles Oliveira was stripped of his title after he failed to meet the lightweight limit of 155 lbs. The Brazillian missed weight by a margin of a mere 0.5 lbs or 280 grams. Many came to Charles’ defense considering his track record as a champion while fighters on the card shared his view of the scales being faulty.
His opponent Justin Gaethje went down a different path, apparently mocking the champion calling him a “Poor bastard” while he was still in the process of cutting weight. Gatheje took to Instagram where he shared his post-weigh-in weight of 165 lbs with the caption “Poor bastard still cutting. I’m back to 65 while he’s dying” referring to Gaethje rehydrating himself while Oliveira prepared for a second attempt on the scales.
This obviously might have led to a lot of fans labeling him a weight bully, which forced Justin to clarify things on Twitter. “I posted my weight 3 hours after I stepped on the scale. Average weight gained back by athletes in the UFC is 10% of body weight.” read the tweet by “The Highlight” referring this to be standard procedure among fighters terming it to be, “the law of the land”
“Cut The BS” Justin Gaethje dismisses claims of a faulty scale
Gaethje also replied to fans who claimed conspiracy in Oliveira missing weight. Responding to a fan who shared a tweet by a journalist who claimed 2 other fighters also had the same problems as Oliveria in making weight, Gaethje said, “3/4 made championship weight. Cut the BS”
Responding to another fan who made the same claim that Norma Dumont and Ariane Sorriso missed were off by 0.5 lbs at their respective weigh-ins, the former interim LW Champ pointed out that both were Brazillian like Oliveira saying, “Both Brazilian (laughter emoji) I weighed the same on the digital and the official.”
This weekend the only way anyone walks away with the title is if Justin Gaethje beats Charles Oliveira. If Oliveira wins, the title will remain vacant and he will be demoted to being the #1 Contender for his own title.
