The infamous BMF title gold will be on the line at UFC 300. Having garnered much heat from the fight bubble on a controversial full-card update, this remains the only hope. At the April 13 event at T-Mobile in Las Vegas, reigning BMF champion Justin Gaethje takes on Max Holloway. Ahead of this though, Gaethje candidly discussed his title shot aspirations against Charles Oliveira, in a recent segment.
This was in conversation with ESPN MMA‘s Brett Okamoto. Gaethje mentioned planning to stand out among Holloway, Oliveria, and Arman Tsarukyan for said title shot. Succeding that sentiment, he weighed in on ‘Do Bronx’ and his injury. Oliveira was to square off with Islam Makhachev but withdrew due to a cut above his eye in training. And here’s what he had to say on that –
I would have fought him! I would have fought him in February...I was told, not by specific people, but I was [told] that I was gonna fight the winner of that fight [Oliveira vs. Makhachev]...in February...And then he got hurt and it really fu**ed things up. Some thing I cannot control.Justin Gaethje via ESPN MMA
‘The Highlight’ also subtly highlighted that Dana White and Co. had nudged his and Dustin Poirier‘s face-off to be a title eliminator for Makhachev’s 155lbs gold. Gaethje however, did prompt in that anything can happen to halt that; as is in the case of Charles Oliveira’s injury. And there’s nothing that can be done about it.
Gaethje vows that he has been a different fighter since his submission loss to Oliveira at UFC 274. He once prompted being a different person ever since. Clearly, he holds a hash-off with the peer in high regard and might just earn it after UFC 300.
Before returning on the UFC 300 card, Justin Gaethje shocks fans with new looks
Justin Gaethje will defend his BMF title at the historic UFC 300 card soon. He goes up against Max Holloway, who shifts to the lightweight scenario for a 2nd time in his pro-MMA tenure.
During a recent sitdown with ESPN MMA, Gaethje discussed his title defense against Holloway and about a supposed title shot against Charles Oliveira. That is, had the latter competed and won at UFC 294.
However, it wasn’t the fighter’s commentary or anything substantial or even controversial that had the fight bubble piqued; rather it was his change in appearance that took the netizens by storm.
Following Dustin Poirier’s vintage bald look returning, and Conor McGregor‘s not-so-notorious beardless looks, Gaethje follows suit. His clean-shaven appearance has caught the MMA community off-guard, inciting many fun quips.
Gaethje recently rekindled his lightweight title hopes with his bout with rising prospect Rafael Fiziev. He had previously incurred a title loss 2 times. Now, with the inactivity of the lightweight champ, Holloway and Gaethje are set to go into action on the monumental card of UFC 300 on April 13th. Concurrently, he hopes that a win at UFC 300 might earn him the title shot yet again.
