Michael Bisping recently gave his prediction on a potential title fight between Dustin Poirier and Islam Makhachev. UFC 300 fighters Charles Oliveria, Justin Gaethje, and Arman Tsarukyan remain next in line if they win. However, they might not make a quick turnaround to fight Makhachev in June. Hence, Dustin Poirier might get the next title shot.

UFC legend Michael Bisping recently suggested that Dustin Poirier should fight Islam Makhachev next for the title. Bisping said that Poirier should “jump the queue” and become the next challenger for the lightweight title. This did not sit well with Justin Gaethje. He had some harsh words for Bisping. Check out what he wrote on X:

Meanwhile, Bisping suggested the winner of the fight between Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira should take on Justin Gaethje. Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan will fight in a lightweight bout at UFC 300. Gaethje and the winner of Oliveira vs. Tsarukyan deserve their shot at the title. It was only last July that Gaethje knocked out Poirier. Gaethje has previously beefed with Bisping. Hence, Bisping vouching for Poirier might have upset Gaethje.

Michael Bisping said Poirier deserved the fight as he approaches retirement. Nevertheless, Gaethje remains closer to a title shot than Poirier. If Poirier receives the title shot, it would happen due to the time constraints and Makhachev’s insistence to fight in June.

Dustin Poirier gets offered a title fight after UFC 299 win

Many fighters have approached their twilight in the UFC. Recently, legends like Kamaru Usman and Alexander Volkanovski faced back-to-back losses. Many thought Dustin Poirier would join the likes of Usman and Volk. However, the UFC 299 co-main event fight proved Poirier had at least a couple more fights before retirement.

Benoit Saint-Denis is not an easy matchup. In fact, BSD dominated Poirier in the first round. ‘Diamond’ did not give up and knocked the Frenchman out in the second round. It even received applause from UFC CEO Dana White. UFC CEO praised Poirier for his performance and willingness to step into the fight against a young contender.

Following the win, Poirier called out Islam Makhachev to fight in June. The lightweight champion accepted the callout on X. However, it does not confirm if Poirier received the next title shot against Makhachev. Only time will tell if the ‘Diamond’ receives his third title shot in the UFC.
