“I’m still the champion” – Kamaru Usman claims even Leon Edwards “knows” that he is the best welterweight in the world

Leon Edwards might technically be the champion of the welterweight division but he isn’t the best welterweight in the world, according to Kamaru Usman.
At UFC 278, Leon Edwards shocked the world by dethroning Kamaru Usman as the welterweight champion via a devastating head kick knockout in the dying second of the fight. Until then The Nigerian Nightmare was the undisputed best fighter in UFC. Usman still believes he is the best welterweight despite facing defeat.
In the recent interview with TMZ Sports, the former welterweight champ claimed he is still the best in the world. The loss against Edwards at UFC 278 was the first defeat in Usman’s career. According to him, an out of the blue headkick knockout does not the change the fact that he is still the best fighter in the welterweight division.
“I’m a champion. I’m still the champion in my head,” said Usman. “And that’s the thing too, like, come on guys, who y’all kidding? The world knows who the best welterweight in the world is. Leon and I know who the best welterweight in the world is. He knows,” said Usman in the interview.

Kamaru Usman wants Leon Edwards in London in 2023
Kamaru Usman can hold his chin up high (no pun intended) with the fact that he was the better fighter in his last fight title fight until the headkick from Edwards in the final seconds. Almost everyone were certain that Edwards and Usman would fight each other again to settle their rivalary once and for all with a trilogy.
The two are currently tied 1-1 in their rivalry. Given the success of UFC in UK, the UFC boss is eager to put together a PPV event and treat the UK fans with a blockbuster card. What better fight to put together as the headliner than UK’s first-ever welterweight champion Leon Edwards defending his belt against his biggest rival in a trilogy bout?
You couldn’t write a better script than this. Dana White is almost certain that the two will fight again in UK for the welterweight belt. Usman, too is down with the idea and is determined to get back his belt from “Rocky” Edwards.
