Joe Rogan and Kamaru Usman
Kamaru Usman must be protected at all costs! Very rarely do we get to see a champion that is in good spirits like Usman after getting knocked out as he did against Leon Edwards. The former welterweight champion talks to UFC commentator Joe Rogan about his brutal knockout loss at UFC 278.
Mixed martial arts is truly a rough sport. It is not easy to recover from a defeat let alone a knockout defeat. The sport is very cruel and can change a person’s life within a split second. The best example is Kamaru Usman, who was on top of the world leading up to UFC 278 in his rematch against Leon Edwards. In a fight where he was winning 3-1 and would’ve got another title defense to his record as a champ, Edwards spoilt the party with a brutal headkick in the last minute of the fight.
Usman recently went on the Joe Rogan podcast and had a very honest discussion about his recent loss to Edwards. The fighter is in amazing spirits despite coming off a devastating defeat. In the recent podcast episode, Usman can be seen cracking jokes about his loss and talking about how it has affected him.

Kamaru Usman was never defeated in the UFC octagon. The legendary welterweight went 16 fights undefeated inside the octagon until he met Leon Edwards in the rematch. In the recent episode of Joe’s podcast, Usman spoke about how it felt after the headkick landed from Edwards. “So I was like, I am gonna shake left, shake right, and then I’m going to let him go, but I got to get him moving first and I didn’t do a great job of that,” said Usman to Rogan.
“I shake left, I shake right, and I’m sitting in the ambulance and they’re asking me, ‘do you know where you are?'” Usman said as he burst out laughing while Rogan sat there stunned. The Nigerian Nightmare says after he got knocked out he went and hugged his family, spoke to his coach, and walked backstage but barely remembers anything. “It was like Leon gave me a 20-minute nap,” added Usman after which both burst out laughing.
It is amazing to see that Usman is taking his first UFC loss very well and does not have a broken spirit. The fighter has also congratulated his opponent and is now set to face Leon again in a trilogy that will most likely take place in the UK.
