“Difficult to say no”- Kamaru Usman is ready to take on Khamzat Chimaev if UFC presents him with a contract

Khamzat Chimaev is one of the biggest prospects in the UFC right now. Like most prospects, Khamzat envisages being the champion. But as the saying goes, To be the champion you have to beat the champion. Considering how rapidly the fight is growing in popularity, in the past Kamaru Usman, the welterweight champion has been brought about a potential fight against Khamzat.
To which Usman showed disinterest, primary reasoning being at the time Khamzat had 0 top 10 wins let alone a top 5 which is a huge black spot for contention for a title shot. However, the status quo is different than it was back then. Khamzat finally got a profile win when he Gilbert burns at UFC 273. A win against Gilbert puts him in title contention, and he moved up to rank 3 in the welterweight division.

The UFC welterweight champion, Usman was one of many people who watched the chaos that unfolded at UFC 273. Although Chimaev won a unanimous decision, it was unlike all his other bouts, he looked human and most importantly he looked beatable which he hadn’t previously.
In a recent interview, the champion was asked about a potential matchup against Khamzat to which Usman replied, “He got the W, so its difficult for me to say no or he doesn’t deserve anything. He did what he needed to do, he defeated Burns and I’m taking nothing away from him if that’s the fight then that’s the fight.” (H/T MMAJunkie.com)
