Kamaru Usman has delivered a strong message to Khamzat Chimaev regarding their highly anticipated showdown. Speculation has surrounded Usman’s next fight following consecutive losses to Leon Edwards. Although he wanted Chimaev to be his next opponent, UFC President Dana White‘s refusal has left the bout uncertain.

During a recent media iteration at UFC 290, Usman addressed the situation. He emphasized that Chimaev must either make weight or put an end to their online exchanges. While acknowledging the possibility of facing Belal Muhammad next, the former champion expressed frustration with Chimaev’s conduct.

“Khamzat is you know, at the end of the day this guy, he keeps flirting with me online…,” he said. “He’s flirting back and forth with me online at this point, he’s just using me for clout,… If you wanna fight cut the weight and let’s fight, if not, stop using me for clout, stop flirting with me online.” The former UFC welterweight champion urges Chimaev to get disciplined and says, “…I’m not going nowhere, I’m right here.”

After Edwards’ triumph over Usman earlier this year, it was announced that Covington would be the next challenger for the title. Although no official date for the clash had yet been announced, Usman spoke about the possible fight and expressed his belief in Covington’s ability to defeat Edwards. Usman acknowledged Edwards’ abilities and stressed that Colby Covington‘s relentless pressure and speed could prove advantageous against his opponent.

Kamaru Usman was the reigning champion in the welterweight division right until UFC 278 when Leon Edwards took over the title with a fourth-round knockdown. Usman went up against Edwards again in March of 2023 at UFC 286.

The fight went the distance but Edwards emerged victorious with the majority decision. The only two losses Usman has suffered in the promotion have been against Edwards which he why he is eager for a trilogy fight. And Khamzat Chimaev would be the perfect stepping stone for another title fight after two consecutive losses.
