Former PFL champion Kayla Harrison transitions to the promotion at UFC 300 as she locks horns with Holly Holm. UFC 300’s official athlete listings recently caught a lot of heat. Concerning 3 women’s fights on the card of the century, that consequently has Harrison on it. However, the Olympic medal winner is unfazed by these. What has fazed her more, is her weight-cutting stipulations.
Competing at nearly 172 pounds, the two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo understands the perils. Harrison knows that many doubts surrounding her promotional debut will not be attributed to her skills. But rather on her ability to make weight at 135lbs. A feat she knows is not going to be easy. Talking to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports (for KevinIole.com), she said –
We did a test cut. Everything was measured...I’m really confident in my team and I’m really confident in myself. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but the things in life that are worth having are usually not easy...Kayla Harrison via Yahoo Sports
Harrison revealed she dabbled at around lightweight limits at PFL. But with UFC not having a lightweight division or even a featherweight division any longer, things are tough. But she revealed going to clinical measurements for a thorough test cut; and that things are looking forward. Concurrently, she is not alone in her worry about the weight cut.
The likes of Larissa Pacheco, Megan Anderson, Miesha Tate, Raquel Pennington, and even Henry Cejudo have pondered over this drop. A lot of peers have weighed in that the cut would suck the strength out of Harrison, the 2-time PFL lightweight champ. Holm herself has, however, brushed off the rival’s chances if she does not comply.
Holly Holm expects Kayla Harrison to make weight for UFC 300
Holly Holm recently admitted that fighting Kayla Harrison was not something she entirely had on her radar. Nonetheless, she welcomes the challenge of the two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time PFL $1 million season winner.
Speaking to MMA Junkie, Larissa Pacheco has hinted at Harrison losing potency with the weight drop. On her YouTube channel, even Megan Anderson has hinted the same. In a segment at Sirius XM’s “Unlocking the Cage, Miehsa Tate and Raquel Pennington have cast their doubts as well.
Harrison meets Holm in a women’s bantamweight bout at her debut in UFC 300. The bout happens on the historic card. on April 13 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Speaking with The MMA Hour‘s Ariel Helwani, here’s what Holm had to say on the opponent-to-be making her weight:
Harrison has opened up a betting favorite for oddsmakers against Holm. But Harrison attempting to reach 135 pounds for the first time in her career has everyone in a frenzy. Holm, who is respectful of the rival, had nonchalantly indulged in the fact that Harrison needs to make weight if she wants this fight. Only time will tell if she can live up to the hype her debut is shaping up to be.
