UFC fighter Kevin Lee had some harsh things to say about the UFC ahead of his comeback fight. The contender’s long-awaited comeback fight will take place in Las Vegas. However, there is a catch. The bout is set to take place at an indoor octagon. This means the event will not have fans in attendance. This angered the former title challenger, and he talked about it at the pre-fight press conference.
The fighter answered a question about his feelings regarding the indoor octagon. “I’m not gonna lie, I wish it was [outdoor octagon with fans],” said Lee. He continued, “I don’t know how many people are gonna be at Apex.” The fights set up at Apex usually have no fans in the arena. “It’s kinda stupid, I don’t know what we’re doing,” said Kevin Lee.
“The pandemic is over,” said Kevin Lee. During the peak of Covid-19, the UFC held events at indoor octagons and prevented the attendance of fans. This was done to avoid further spread of the virus. Lee joked about the pandemic while talking about his following bout. “I don’t know what we’re still doing here. I get that it’s money to be had but, it’s kinda stupid. It’s a different energy when it’s thousands of people screaming,” said ‘The Motown Phenom.’
“Imma make due of what I do. Imma go out there on Saturday in front of two-three hundred rich a** m********** that wanna see me bleed. And, we’re gonna get it in,” said Kevin Lee. Despite accepting the fight with no fans, ‘The Motown Phenom’ seemed confident to take on Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC on ESPN 47.
Kevin Lee’s thoughts shade his opponent Rinat Fakhretdinov
UFC fighter Kevin Lee is set to fight Rinat Fakhretdinov at UFC on ESPN 47. In the pre-fight press conference, Lee talked about the strategies for his fight, the absence of fans, and Rinat’s abilities and fame.
“He [Rinat Fakhretdinov] hasn’t fought anybody at this level. I just learned how to pronounce his name this weekend. I don’t think he’s fought anybody on this level. It’s more about competitions. As good as his skills are, he hasn’t had that level of experience yet. So, I would like to fight somebody who’s got a lot more experience in the game. I’ve only got two or three fights at 170. I wanna test myself against the best in the world,” said Lee.
Rinat Fakhretdinov has one of the best win streaks among welterweight fighters. Kevin Lee is under a lot of pressure for this fight. Since his knee injuries following the last fight, ‘The Motown Phenom’ will look to make a statement upon his return to the UFC.
