Khabib Nurmagomedov wants Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev next
Khabib Nurmagomedov is more confident than ever in the skills of his teammate Islam Makhachev to finish the current lightweight king Charles Oliveira.
If there is one fight that every MMA fan wants to see in the UFC lightweight division, it is the much-anticipated Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev fight for the vacant lightweight title. Oliveira has been finishing his opponents in the octagon for the last two years. However, he is yet to answer the test of Islam Makhachev.
Islam is the favorite to fight Oliveira next for the lightweight title and former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wouldn’t mind his friend taking on ‘Do Bronx’ in his home of Brazil. Khabib is positive that irrespective of the location of the fight, the lightweight belt will belong to Islam and Dagestan in the upcoming years.
“Charles’ coach said, ‘come to Brazil.’ No problem, send us location,” said Khabib talking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN MMA. “Islam gonna ride Charles like his horse. We are gonna take this belt. We are gonna show them that if Sambo was easy it would be called Jiu-Jitsu and we are gonna go home.”

Though Khabib’s team would prefer to fight in Abu Dhabi, Brazil doesn’t sound too bad either for the Dagestanis. Khabib says they would head to Brazil two weeks before the fight and rent a big house to help Makhachev make weight. Nurmagomedov also takes a dig at Oliveira for missing weight at UFC 274 and says, “We gonna come there, two weeks before the fight, come with a big team, make weight, not like Charles Oliveira,” said Nurmagomedov.
Khabib also promises that Makhachev will show which of their style is the most superior. Islam is currently on a 10-fight winning streak while Oliveira is on an 11-fight win streak. A fight couldn’t possibly get bigger than this. This is probably the biggest lightweight matchup in a long time since Khabib vs Conor. According to Khabib, this is also a legacy fight for Makhachev and a win would cement his name in the history books.
